Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate in One Small Step?

Anyone! There are no qualifications to participate in a One Small Step interview. We encourage everyone, regardless of age, work, background, education, etc. to sign up. The only requirement is that you have an open mind and respect for your One Small Step partner.

How do you match people with interview partners?

Partners are matched based on the responses they provide in the One Small Step questionnaire. We try to pair people together who share something in common, whether it's their job, an event in their life, or something they like to do, etc. Every pairing is unique, and we hope that your conversations are an opportunity to make a new friend in the community.

Are the interviews virtual?

All interviews can be conducted virtually over Zoom. In-person recording opportunities may be offered when possible based on space availability and participant comfort level.

What happens after I sign up?

After you sign up, you will be contacted by a One Small Step team member. They will help you get scheduled for an interview and will send you follow-up information about the interview process and your conversation partner.

Can I do the interview with someone I know?

Yes! If you have someone in mind that you'd like to do your interview with, you can indicate that on the One Small Step questionnaire. We encourage you to ask your prospective partner to fill out the form as well. Once we reach out to you about setting up an interview, you can let a team member know who you want to do the interview with and we can set it up accordingly.
